Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Bushey Heath

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We’re frequently asked to look into loose ridge and hip tiles and moss and weeds taking hold up top, across chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.

Around Bushey Heath, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What this survey cannot tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

What happens on the day

You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a smaller place like Bushey Heath, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

Advice

Useful tips for Bushey Heath property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

Questions from Bushey Heath

Is drone flying allowed in Bushey Heath?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Elstree Aerodrome is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Is my home in Bushey Heath listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Is Bushey Heath in your area?

Yes, we do. Bushey Heath is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Flying and imaging in Bushey Heath

Bushey Heath is about 2 miles from Elstree Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

With Headstone Manor about 2.8 miles south, the area around Bushey Heath has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Harlequin Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. The streets around a church like Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Checking the roof from the ground

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.
