Common questions in Chalvey

Will you come out to Chalvey?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

How do I find out if my home in Chalvey is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

How soon will I get the report?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Drone roof survey in Chalvey: what you get

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and flashings that have come away.

Around Chalvey, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Why act early in Chalvey

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. Around Chalvey, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Practical tips

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Parking around Chalvey is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

What we cannot see

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Drone roof surveys in Chalvey: local notes

In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Chalvey, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. Anyone responsible for a site like Montem Academy will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
