Roof survey in Chalvey
We survey roofs in Chalvey and across London and South East England. Visits run on any day of the week. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey natural slate, clay and concrete tiles and flat roofs, and people most often book us about ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and ridge tiles that have lifted or moved.
Houses in smaller places like Chalvey can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Chalvey
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Leave it or get it looked at?
If you are planning to sell, a roof survey can help you prepare. You’ll know what a buyer’s survey might pick up. With lower homes, common in places like Chalvey, there is little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.
Why us?
- Surveys seven days a week
- 20+ years’ experience
- Every finding written up with photos
- Satisfaction rate of 98%

Local roofs in Chalvey
In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you own a rental within reach of Slough station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. With Windsor Castle about 1.6 miles south, the area around Chalvey has a long history. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is.

Common roof problems in Chalvey
Slates and tiles often outlast the fixings that hold them. ‘Nail fatigue’ is common on slate roofs: the nails rust and the slates slide. On tiled roofs, the battens or pegs may be what’s gone.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
Trees in and around Herschel Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.
Questions to ask before booking
- When you will get the report
- What happens after the report arrives
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Will the report include photos?
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
Questions from Chalvey
Is my home in Chalvey listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you come out to Chalvey?
Yes, Chalvey is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as an exact number, because so much depends on the fixings, underlay and upkeep. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.
How much is a survey?
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Let us know about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.
The survey, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. A visit to Chalvey is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed

Useful tips for Chalvey property owners
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- File the report with your home documents
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Watch for slipped slates after bad weather
Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation. You can ask us about anything that isn’t clear.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation builds up when air cannot move, which can dampen timbers and insulation over time. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.
