Chalvey Gutter Survey
Find out what’s going on with the gutter before you spend money on it. We carry out gutter surveys in Chalvey, with photos and a clear written report.
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
How a gutter survey works in Chalvey
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Homes close to trees fill their gutters faster and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. Photos show each problem clearly. It’s an easy job to put off, but they rarely get better. We survey valley gutters, eaves gutters and parapet and box gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are leaves and moss blocking gutters and sagging gutters and loose brackets.
Around Chalvey, older cottages sit alongside bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. On older homes, chimney stacks, valleys and gutters are typically where the work is. The fixings under an older roof often fail before good slates or tiles do.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Chalvey questions
Do you cover smaller places like Chalvey?
Yes, Chalvey is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chalvey?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
Do you check valley and parapet gutters?
Yes, where it is safe to see them. We use the ground, windows, the loft space and the roof where it’s safe, and by drone where it’s applicable.
Can the survey be at a weekend?
Yes. Surveys are carried out seven days a week. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email to arrange a day.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
Honest limits
It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- What’s behind fascias and inside walls
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
- Gutters out of sight from every safe vantage point
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What a gutter survey looks like in Chalvey
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Historic houses such as Windsor Castle, about 1.6 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Chalvey goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Landlords with a home close to Slough station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Take a building like Montem Academy: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

Tips from our surveys
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more frequently near trees
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
For let and shared buildings, the report can go on file to help plan maintenance. The photos help when you explain the work to others.
Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. Left alone, they usually grow, and the water they spill can damage walls and timber.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Damp walls are sometimes blamed on the wrong thing. If a leaking gutter or downpipe is the source, other work on the wall won’t stop it. A gutter survey helps rule the rainwater system in or out. With lower homes, common in places like Chalvey, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.

The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Being in a smaller place like Chalvey doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Preparing for the visit
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
