About our roof survey in Farnham Common
Our roof surveys cover Farnham Common and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you’re ready to book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey lead flashings, the roof space and ridges, hips and valleys, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs.
Some older homes in villages like Farnham Common are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Questions from Farnham Common
Do you cover smaller places like Farnham Common?
Yes, Farnham Common is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Burnham station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need.
What insurance do you have?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.
Different roofs, different checks
Concrete interlocking tiles
Mortar at ridges and verges often cracks on tiled roofs. Loose ridges and gaps in the mortar are recorded.
Flat roof coverings
Felt flat roofs frequently last around 15 to 20 years, while EPDM rubber often lasts 30 to 50 years and GRP up to about 30. We check its condition and the signs of age.
What affects the cost of roof surveys
To price your survey, we check:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Which survey package you book
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
Booking your survey
What helps most when you contact us:
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. For a village or hamlet like Farnham Common, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

When you need someone else
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- A structural engineer’s report
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- The roof space
- Chimney stacks
- Natural slate
- Flat roofs
- Lead flashings
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Ridges, hips and valleys
Tips from our surveys
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Mention any damp patches when booking
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- File the report with your home documents
File the report with your other home documents. It’s a useful baseline for future surveys, and it can help when you sell.
Have gutters and valleys cleared regularly, particularly after autumn. Leave the clearing to a professional. Most overflow damage starts with a blocked gutter.
Why act early in Farnham Common
A small roof defect typically gets bigger. One slipped slate lets water reach the battens and underlay, and damp timber slowly weakens. Finding it early keeps the work smaller. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What else we do in Farnham Common
Roof surveys in Farnham Common: local notes
With Cliveden about 3.3 miles west, Farnham Common sits in an area with a long building history. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
For an older house near a landmark like St John the Evangelist, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Farnham Common Junior School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. Trees in and around Cocksherd Wood shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.
