Drone roof survey in Dorney

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’re worried about slipped or missing slates on a high roof and wind damage high on the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Dorney may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

Honest limits

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs

What affects the price in Dorney

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • The roof’s overall size
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What to tell us when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is usually out of view. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a small place like Dorney, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Drone roof surveys around Dorney

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

With Dorney Court about 0.5 miles west, the area around Dorney has a long history. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St James, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Western House Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Dorney: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Dorney?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is Dorney within the area you cover?

Yes. Dorney is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

How fast do I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?

No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it can’t see under the coverings. Where there’s safe access, we check the roof space from inside.

Why get it checked now?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Older and listed buildings around Dorney may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for your roof before booking.
