How a drone roof survey works in Furze Platt

Drone roof surveys are available in Furze Platt and throughout London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly seven days a week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. If you’ve noticed hidden gutters full of leaves and ridge pieces that have lifted, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors alike.

Older cottages and houses around Furze Platt may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates frequently point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is normally out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Furze Platt

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots

If you look after a building such as Furze Platt Senior School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What’s in a roof survey

What a drone roof survey looks like in Furze Platt

White Waltham Airfield is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. About 2.6 miles north-east lies Cliveden, a reminder of how long the area around Furze Platt has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. A visit to a smaller place like Furze Platt is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice

Furze Platt: your questions answered

Will you come out to Furze Platt?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is my home in Furze Platt listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Is your drone operator registered?

Yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and keep it in sight at all times.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

It depends where in central London. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. Every address is checked first.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Furze Platt

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.

Tips that help

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

How we price drone roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Height and safe access
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

What we need to know

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • What made you get in touch

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.
