What we are asked to look at in South Ascot

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Lexicon, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

What to check before booking

  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof survey in South Ascot: what you get

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof.

Older cottages and houses around South Ascot may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Why it is worth a survey now in South Ascot

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Blocked gutters on homes around South Ascot overflow and soak walls, especially where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.

Questions from South Ascot

Will you come out to South Ascot?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How do I find out if my home in South Ascot is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. The roof space is checked separately, where there’s safe access, as damp and daylight often show there first.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in South Ascot?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Does your drone take thermal images?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, included in our Premium Survey.

What this survey cannot tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

Drone roof surveys in South Ascot: local notes

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like St Francis Catholic Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Historic houses such as St Leonard's Hill, about 4.8 miles north, show how far back building around South Ascot goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

The survey, step by step

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around South Ascot, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

DIY checks: what’s safe

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
