Drone roof survey in Clatterford End

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed worn lead at chimneys and walls and plant growth and moss on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Some older homes in villages like Clatterford End are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What you can safely check yourself

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Clatterford End

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Before and after the survey

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Tell us the exact address when you book
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Clatterford End

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. A drone survey finds them sooner. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Clatterford End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Clatterford End questions

Is Clatterford End within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Clatterford End?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

What will the report tell me?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Clatterford End

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

If you look after a building such as The Ongar Academy, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Before you book anyone

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • What insurance they carry
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos

What to expect from a roof survey

What happens on the day

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take between one and two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Clatterford End often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
