Drone roof survey in Edney Common, Essex
An experienced roof surveyor for drone roof surveys in Edney Common. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Edney Common
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most often book us about vegetation in valleys and gutters and standing water on a flat roof.
In a village or hamlet like Edney Common, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Leave it or get it looked at?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a small place like Edney Common, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Edney Common
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The size of the roof
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
What to tell us when you get in touch
We will usually ask about:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What made you get in touch
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.
Edney Common questions
Do you cover smaller places like Edney Common?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
How do I find out if my home in Edney Common is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it cannot see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it’s safe.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
No, the camera is kept on your roof. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. It’s useful to tell neighbours beforehand.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How it works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Edney Common can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
Arrange a survey
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
Advice
Tips that help
Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Airspace, weather and Edney Common roofs
Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and lots of post-war and modern estates besides. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If you live in an older home near St Paul's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Bond Street Chelmsford, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera. Anyone responsible for a site like Highwood Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
