Drone roof survey in Radley Green

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are eroded pointing on a chimney stack and worn lead at chimneys and walls.

In a small place like Radley Green, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How it works

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, it typically takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a small place like Radley Green, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Advice

Radley Green: your questions answered

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Radley Green?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Radley Green within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before you book. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.

What happens next?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and plenty of post-war and modern estates besides. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

DIY checks: what’s safe

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That’s where a survey comes in.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. We will say if a specialist is needed.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.
