Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Radley Green
The Financial Ombudsman looks at three things when it considers a storm damage complaint: were there storm conditions on or around the date, is the damage consistent with a storm, and was the storm the main cause. We record what the roof shows about the damage and its likely cause. Weather records for the date are for you or your insurer to check. We’re often asked to look into broken or displaced guttering and ridge tiles that have come loose, across gutters and fascias, chimney stacks and flashings.
Somewhere as small as Radley Green, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, which matters if you are thinking of an insurance claim. We check everything that’s safely in view and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.
Slate roofs
In high winds, slates can slip or go, often where nails have rusted. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.
What a storm damage roof report does not cover
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- A decision on your insurance claim
- Acting for you with the insurer

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- House, block, shop or office
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The roof’s overall size
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Booking your survey
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
What we do, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere like Radley Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Getting ready for the survey

Advice
DIY checks: what’s safe
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Why it is worth a survey now in Radley Green
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is usually better. Older cottages and farmhouses around Radley Green can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we will tell you which fits.

Questions from Radley Green
Is my home in Radley Green listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is Radley Green in the area you cover?
Yes, Radley Green is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Radley Green as anywhere else.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
Will you check the loft?
Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Is wear and tear covered by insurance?
Insurers typically exclude wear and tear. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. The claim decision is your insurer’s.
