Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Flishinghurst
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Common reasons to book are coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls, on chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters.
In a village or hamlet like Flishinghurst, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
What this survey cannot tell you
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- A structural engineer’s report
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Drone roof surveys around Flishinghurst
Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. You’ll also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. The wider area around Flishinghurst has a long history of building, with Scotney Castle about 4.5 miles west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Colliers Green Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Questions from Flishinghurst
Will you come out to Flishinghurst?
Yes. Flishinghurst is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Flishinghurst?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely, as damp and daylight frequently show there first.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.

What else we do in Flishinghurst
What happens on the day
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like Flishinghurst can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

Advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect, which helps when you ask for quotes. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Flishinghurst, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
