Airspace, weather and Fox Street roofs
Fox Street lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, alongside a good many post-war and newer estates. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Roach Vale Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Historic houses such as Castle House, about 3.2 miles north-east, show how far back building around Fox Street goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you live in an older home near Church of St John, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Drone roof survey in Fox Street
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’ve noticed outlets choked with leaves and silt and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs alike.
Villages like Fox Street often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
FAQs for Fox Street
Is Fox Street within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Fox Street?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.
What happens next?
You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
What we do, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit usually takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. For a village or hamlet like Fox Street, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Leave a clear route to the loft

What a survey costs
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The roof’s overall size
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
What to tell us when you get in touch
There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- When you need the report by
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. The price is agreed up front.
Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Shut pets inside while we fly
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.
Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Fox Street
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey on any day of the week, which can make access easier.
Landlords and agents in Fox Street book surveys as well as householders. A report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof.
What happens if roof problems are left?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. In a small place like Fox Street, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the price for the job before you book.
