Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tiptree
Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and ridge and hip pieces working loose.
Around Tiptree, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What happens on the day
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a smaller place like Tiptree, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

What we’re asked to look at in Tiptree
Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
Take a building like St Luke's Church of England Controlled Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
What to check before booking
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Will the report include photos?
Questions from Tiptree
Do you cover smaller places like Tiptree?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Is my home in Tiptree listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
It typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
Can you fly a drone in central London?
Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
What will the report tell me?
A written report with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, with the most urgent first where relevant. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Airspace, weather and Tiptree roofs
About 2.1 miles east lies Layer Marney Tower, a reminder of how long the area around Tiptree has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Luke, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

How we price drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The size of the roof
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your roof before booking.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What made you get in touch
- The property’s address and postcode
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Check the loft can be reached
- Book early if you’re near an airport
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
What you can safely check yourself
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
