Drone roof surveys in Hall's Green

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Hall's Green, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

How a drone roof survey works in Hall's Green

We carry out drone roof surveys in Hall's Green and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Typical surveys look at blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and lead work pulling away at abutments, across tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors.

Some older homes in villages like Hall's Green are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Questions from Hall's Green

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hall's Green?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Will you come out to Hall's Green?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The loft space is checked separately, where there is safe access.

What will the report tell me?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

No, the drone survey is photographic. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey.

Different roofs, different checks

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Roof area
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

All our prices include VAT. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before you book.

What we need to know

There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • The address and postcode of the property

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Common roof problems in Hall's Green

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

Problems we come across frequently include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Weald Community Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • What experience they bring
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely

What to expect from a roof survey

Checking the roof from ground level

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Flying and imaging in Hall's Green

Knole House, about 3.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hall's Green. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St George, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before and after the survey

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.
