Drone roof survey in Headcorn: what you get

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are plant growth and moss on the roof and chimney tops in poor condition.

In smaller places like Headcorn, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

Headcorn: your questions answered

Is drone flying allowed in Headcorn?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Headcorn is about 2 miles from Headcorn Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Headcorn listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

When does the report arrive?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. On a bungalow or cottage around Headcorn, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Drone roof surveys around Headcorn

Headcorn is about 2 miles from Headcorn Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Peter's and St Paul's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What we are asked to look at in Headcorn

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From ground level, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Wind damage high on the roof

Anyone responsible for a site like Headcorn Primary School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Before booking anyone

  • Their report turnaround times
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?

What to expect from a roof survey

What a drone roof survey does not cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

How the survey works

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Being in a smaller place like Headcorn does not change how the visit works: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. It helps to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
