Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Howlett End

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. If you are worried about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and lead work pulling away at abutments, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs alike.

Somewhere as small as Howlett End, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What this survey cannot tell you

It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before you book:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Roofs we survey in Howlett End

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Howlett End

Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

Problems we come across frequently include:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters

Historic houses such as Horham Hall, about 3.2 miles south, show how far back building around Howlett End goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

What to check before booking

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys around Howlett End

Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Take an older house close to St Paul's Mission Room: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Take a building like Wimbish Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Howlett End

Is drone flying allowed in Howlett End?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Howlett End listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

How quickly is the report sent?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

What does the report include?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What we do, step by step

You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Howlett End often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Related advice

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Tips from our surveys

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later, and they help if you sell.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
