Independent drone roof surveys in Kingsgate

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Kingsgate

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are lead work pulling away at abutments and wind damage high on the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Kingsgate, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

The survey, step by step

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Kingsgate, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

When to book a survey in Kingsgate

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

For businesses in and around places like Westwood Cross, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

What to check before booking

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What a roof survey includes

What you can safely check yourself

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

FAQs for Kingsgate

Is Kingsgate within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is my home in Kingsgate listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

What if it is windy or raining on the day?

The flight waits for better weather. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so we’d move the date with you.

Does someone need to be in?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

What’s in the report?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What we can’t see

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Flying and imaging in Kingsgate

Kingsgate lies within about 1 mile of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Take an older house close to St Philip: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Take a building like Callis Grange Nursery and Infant School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What a survey costs

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Height and safe access
  • How big the roof is

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What to let us know when you contact us

There’s no need for technical words. It’s enough to tell us:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • When you need the report by
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • What’s prompted the survey

Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.

Tips from our surveys

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
