Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
Drone roof survey in Palm Bay
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We’re frequently asked to look into vegetation in valleys and gutters and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, across fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
Villages like Palm Bay often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Drone roof surveys around Palm Bay
Palm Bay lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Within a mile and a half or so of Palm Bay there are several hotels. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
Take an older house close to St Philip: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Quex Park, about 4.3 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Palm Bay. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Palm Bay is about 1 mile north-east of Margate, in Kent. We cover Palm Bay and the rest of Kent. Across Kent, we cover Palm Bay and the places around it. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roofs we survey in Palm Bay
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. In a hamlet or village like Palm Bay, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Related advice
Do you need a drone roof survey in Palm Bay?
Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
Take a building like Palm Bay Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
How we price drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Height and safe access
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Anything about access we should know
We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Palm Bay questions
How do I find out if my home in Palm Bay is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in Palm Bay?
Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you look in the loft space?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What you can safely check yourself
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
