Drone roof survey in Newington: what you get
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the day turns out unsuitable, we will talk about another date. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. We’re often asked to look into plant growth and moss on the roof and lifted or split lead flashings, across valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs.
Around Newington, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Drones, thermal imaging and Newington roofs
Newington lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Shop and office owners around Westwood Cross may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Historic houses like Quex Park, about 3.4 miles west, show how far back building around Newington goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.
Newington is about 1 mile north-west of Ramsgate, in Kent. We cover Newington and the rest of Kent. Across Kent, we cover Newington. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.
All of CT12, CT11 and CT10 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Gwyn Road, Haine Road and Leigh Road or a nearby road, we can survey it. Newington sits on or near the A254 and A256, which makes travel easy. Neighbouring places we cover for drone roof surveys include Haine (1 mile north-west), Manston (1 mile west), Chilton (1 mile south), Westwood (1 mile north) and Flete (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Canterbury (14 miles west), Dover (15 miles south), Deal (9 miles south), Herne Bay (11 miles west), Walmer (10 miles south) and Wincheap (15 miles west).

Common roof problems in Newington
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
Common reasons to book include:
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Christopher's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Their report turnaround times
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Newington: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in Newington?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Is Newington within the area you cover?
Yes, Newington is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What does the report include?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- The roof’s overall size
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.
Booking your survey
Some details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- When you need the report by
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- What kind of property and roof it is

What this survey cannot tell you
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

What we do, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. A visit to Newington is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Related advice
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Make sure the loft can be reached
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Book early if you’re near an airport
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
