Independent drone roof surveys in Flete

Common questions in Flete

Is drone flying allowed in Flete?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Is my home in Flete listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Flete?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, inc. VAT.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

How a drone roof survey works in Flete

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you are worried about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Villages like Flete often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Flete

Flete is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. About 2.2 miles west lies Quex Park, a reminder of how long the area around Flete has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like St Gregory's Catholic Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For businesses in and around places such as Westwood Cross, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If you live in an older home near St. Catherine's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Flete

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Older cottages and farmhouses around Flete can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

What happens on the day

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Around Flete, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. A drone avoids that, so the survey doesn’t add damage.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

What a survey costs

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Height and safe access
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Getting in touch

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • When you need the report by

Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.
