Drone roof surveys near Marshborough

Drone roof survey in Marshborough

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and blocked valleys and parapet gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Marshborough, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Marshborough can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Booking a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Related advice

Do you need a drone roof survey in Marshborough?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof surveys in Marshborough: local notes

Marshborough lies within about 4 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Sandwich Technology School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Goodnestone Park lies about 3.7 miles south-west, so building around Marshborough goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

What this survey can’t tell you

We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

Common questions in Marshborough

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Marshborough?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Marshborough within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

What happens after the survey?

The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We will rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Marshborough

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

What you can safely check yourself

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
