What a drone roof survey looks like in Newland Green

Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

If you look after a building like Egerton Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Drone roof survey in Newland Green: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Newland Green and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly seven days a week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are lifted or split lead flashings and plant growth and moss on the roof.

In a small place like Newland Green, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Practical tips

A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Book early if you are near an airport

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

What happens on the day

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photographs. On timing, it typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Cottages and farmhouses around Newland Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Do you need a drone roof survey in Newland Green?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof

Take an older house close to Church of St James: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Are they insured for the work?

Questions from Newland Green

Is drone flying allowed in Newland Green?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Newland Green listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

How quickly is the report sent?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, tell us when booking.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Newland Green?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before you book, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It helps when you plan ahead. Around Newland Green, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
