Drone roof surveys near North Waltham

About our drone roof survey in North Waltham

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. If you’ve noticed lead work pulling away at abutments and hidden gutters full of leaves, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Somewhere as small as North Waltham, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.

North Waltham questions

How do I find out if my home in North Waltham is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is North Waltham within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

Our drone takes close-up photographs of the roof. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, included in our Premium Survey.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Flying and imaging in North Waltham

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

Anyone responsible for a site like North Waltham Primary School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church such as Church of St. Michael's are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before and after the survey

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns

File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.

How it works

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around North Waltham, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Checking the roof from the ground

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Roof area
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:

  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
