FAQs for Dummer

Are there drone restrictions around Dummer?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you cover smaller places like Dummer?

Yes. Dummer is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.

What happens next?

You’ll get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Dummer?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. We survey seven days a week.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Dummer

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We are frequently asked to look into coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and moss and weeds taking hold up top, across large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs.

Somewhere as small as Dummer, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Let us know what you want to see

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.

How it works

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Dummer can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

How to prepare

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Drone roof surveys in Dummer: local notes

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Around Dummer, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of All Saints, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs

  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Surveys for landlords and agents in Dummer

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Dummer

Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Dummer, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
