How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.

Drone roof survey in Osea Island: what you get

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we are asked to look at most are worn lead at chimneys and walls and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.

In a village or hamlet like Osea Island, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

For landlords and managing agents

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.

Airspace, weather and Osea Island roofs

Osea Island is within about 2 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Around Osea Island, each roof gets the same safe, thorough look, and the findings in plain words.

Osea Island is about 4 miles east of Maldon, in Essex. We survey roofs in Osea Island across London and South East England. Osea Island is one of the towns and villages in Essex we cover for drone roof surveys. There is also a page for Chelmsford.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Osea Island?

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Lifted or split lead flashings

For any home in Osea Island, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Their insurance cover

What to expect from a roof survey

Leave it or get it looked at?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Osea Island, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we can help you choose.

When you need someone else

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

What happens on the day

We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Rural addresses near Osea Island can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Osea Island

Are there drone restrictions around Osea Island?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Do you cover smaller places like Osea Island?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we will agree the details when you book.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Will you check the loft?

Typically, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
