Tips from our surveys

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Let us know what you want to see

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

How a drone roof survey works in Pinewood Village

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and loose ridge and hip tiles, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs alike.

Older cottages and houses around Pinewood Village may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

What this survey can’t tell you

A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs

FAQs for Pinewood Village

Are there drone restrictions around Pinewood Village?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is my home in Pinewood Village listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

How do I book a survey in Pinewood Village?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Pinewood Village

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.

If you look after a building like Bordon Junior School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church like St Mark's Sacred Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

For landlords and managing agents

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.

How the survey works

You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. A visit to a smaller place like Pinewood Village is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
