How a drone roof survey works in Rudley Green
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are loose ridge and hip tiles and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.
Older buildings in small places like Rudley Green may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters

Common questions in Rudley Green
Will you come out to Rudley Green?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is my home in Rudley Green listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?
Sometimes, with permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. If permission is not given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Drones, thermal imaging and Rudley Green roofs
Rudley Green is within about 3 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Danbury Place, about 4.3 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Rudley Green. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. Take a building like Purleigh Community Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Rudley Green
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey does not create new problems. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Rudley Green?
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Wind damage high on the roof
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Parish Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What insurance they carry
How it works
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. All told, expect about one to two hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Rudley Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
