Canvey Island Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys in Canvey Island from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and the South East.
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Vegetation in valleys and gutters
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
The survey, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. A visit in Canvey Island runs most smoothly with the loft hatch clear, side gates open and a parking spot in mind. If you will not be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Canvey Island
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. If you’re worried about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and standing water on a flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs alike.
In older houses around Canvey Island, loft insulation can be thin, patchy or missing in places. A thermal camera shows those cold and warm patches, and some of them can point to moisture. What it shows is surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings, while drone photos show the outside of the same roof. Results depend on conditions, so the timing of the visit matters.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Canvey Island?
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
If you look after a building like St Josephs Catholic Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Before you book anyone

- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- How long the report takes to arrive

Drones, thermal imaging and Canvey Island roofs
Canvey Island is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Nicholas, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the addresses.
Can I check my roof myself?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in Canvey Island
Do you cover Canvey Island?
Yes, Canvey Island is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.
Are there drone restrictions around Canvey Island?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
What happens if roof problems are left?
On a tall building, problems are frequently found only when water comes in. By then, timbers, ceilings and insulation may be wet. Looking from above picks up the early signs. Blocked gutters and downpipes on homes in Canvey Island overflow onto walls, and damp follows inside. A slipped tile or worn flashing does the same higher up. Neither gets better on its own.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Different roofs, different checks
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.
