North Benfleet Drone Roof Survey
Drone roof surveys in North Benfleet and the rest of Essex. We survey seven days a week.
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Landlords and agents in North Benfleet book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, useful for planning maintenance.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the visit with that in mind.
About our drone roof survey in North Benfleet
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’ve noticed wind damage high on the roof and ridge and hip pieces working loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like North Benfleet, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey doesn’t add damage.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We record the signs of age we can see.
How it works
We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as North Benfleet, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Getting ready for the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Tell us where we can park nearby
How to book

Advice
Before and after the survey
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
What a survey costs
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Height and safe access
- Which survey package you book
- The roof’s overall size
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Getting in touch
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. You will know the price before anything is booked.
Your questions about drone roof surveys in North Benfleet
Does a conservation area affect roof work in North Benfleet?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in North Benfleet?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Do you cover North Benfleet?
Yes. We survey roofs in North Benfleet and the rest of Essex. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it doesn’t include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, confirmed before anything is booked.
Will you check the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Flying and imaging in North Benfleet
North Benfleet lies within about 5 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
Shop and office owners around Eastgate Shopping Centre may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Montgomerie Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
