About our drone roof survey in Shellwood Cross

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. If you’ve noticed flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Shellwood Cross, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How the survey works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes between one and two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a small place like Shellwood Cross, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Let us know about parking before the day
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

How to book

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Shellwood Cross

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps with budgets and planning.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

FAQs for Shellwood Cross

How do I find out if my home in Shellwood Cross is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Shellwood Cross?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

What happens next?

You’ll get the report by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Practical tips

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Flying and imaging in Shellwood Cross

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Bartholomew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Around Shellwood Cross, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.
