Drone roof survey in Staplehurst

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about eroded pointing on a chimney stack and worn lead at chimneys and walls.

Around Staplehurst, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you cannot see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

How we price drone roof surveys

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Which survey package you book

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details. We will confirm the figure before booking.

Helping us price your survey

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange

Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or email us and give us some details about the property and we’ll point you to the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

What we do, step by step

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to Staplehurst is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Find any records of previous roof work

When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or email us. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

Drones, thermal imaging and Staplehurst roofs

Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Older houses across Kent frequently have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Take an older house close to All Saints Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Staplehurst School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Staplehurst is about 7 miles south of Maidstone, in Kent. If you are in Staplehurst, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. We cover towns and villages across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. Maidstone is in our area too.

All of TN12 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Local streets include Station Road, High Street and North Down, all of which we cover. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Hawkenbury (1 mile north-east), Marden Thorn (2 miles west), Cross-at-Hand (2 miles north), Wanshurst Green (2 miles north-west) and Sinkhurst Green (2 miles south-east). Further out, we also cover Maidstone (7 miles north), Ashford (14 miles east), Sittingbourne (15 miles north-east), Royal Tunbridge Wells (12 miles west), Tonbridge (12 miles west) and Kings Hill (10 miles north-west).

Around Staplehurst

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to The Railway Tavern, among other places. Staplehurst has its own railway station: Staplehurst station. Nearby you’ll also find Brattle Farm Museum (1 mile south-west) and Sissinghurst Castle (3.7 miles south).

Surveys for landlords and agents in Staplehurst

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Common questions in Staplehurst

Do you cover smaller places like Staplehurst?

Yes, Staplehurst is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Is my home in Staplehurst listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

No, the drone survey is photographic. For thermal imaging, look at the Premium Survey or our thermal roof survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access as you book.

Tips that help

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Let us know the exact address when booking
  • Book early if you’re near an airport

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Ridges and hips

Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
