Drone roof survey in Stodmarsh: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Stodmarsh and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We are often asked to look into standing water on a flat roof and vegetation in valleys and gutters, across large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

Villages like Stodmarsh often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to.

Stodmarsh questions

How do I find out if my home in Stodmarsh is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you cover smaller places like Stodmarsh?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. A word with next door beforehand is a good idea.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

What we do, step by step

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can be seen safely, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Around Stodmarsh, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice

What a drone roof survey looks like in Stodmarsh

Goodnestone Park, about 4.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stodmarsh. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Take a building like Wickhambreaux Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

Leave it or get it looked at?

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Older cottages and farmhouses around Stodmarsh can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.
