Stoke D'Abernon Drone Roof Survey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Stoke D'Abernon and the rest of Surrey. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Lifted or split lead flashings
Useful tips for Stoke D'Abernon property owners
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Book early if you’re near an airport
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Every so frequently, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
How a drone roof survey works in Stoke D'Abernon
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in high wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the weather turns, we will agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you’re worried about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and outlets choked with leaves and silt, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Villages like Stoke D'Abernon frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

How we price drone roof surveys
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

- How big the roof is
- Which survey package you book
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to tell us when you contact us
When you call or email, these details help:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What’s prompted the survey
- When you need the report by
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
We confirm the price for your roof before booking, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
What you can safely check yourself
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Stoke D'Abernon: your questions answered
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Stoke D'Abernon?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
How do I find out if my home in Stoke D'Abernon is listed?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
What happens after the survey?
You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
Drone roof surveys around Stoke D'Abernon
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Historic houses like The Homewood, about 2 miles north, show how far back building around Stoke D'Abernon goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. If you look after a building such as Parkside School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

How it works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. Cottages and farmhouses around Stoke D'Abernon often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Different roofs, different checks
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.
When to book a survey in Stoke D'Abernon
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.
People normally book a survey when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.
What to check before booking
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
