How a drone roof survey works in Terling
We carry out drone roof surveys in Terling and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We’re often asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.
In a small place like Terling, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Questions from Terling
Will you come out to Terling?
Yes, Terling is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Are there drone restrictions around Terling?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
What’s in the survey report?
Written findings with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
How much is a survey?
Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Flying and imaging in Terling
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
The streets around a church like United Reformed Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a building such as Terling Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What we do, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Terling, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Check pets are kept safely away

Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- The property’s address and postcode
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- When you need the report by
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window

What you can safely check yourself
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
What else we do in Terling
How the survey changes by roof type
Valleys and parapet gutters
Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
What we can’t see
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
