Drone roof surveys in Tickham

Drone roof survey in Tickham

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We are often asked to look into cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and ridge and hip pieces working loose, on fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs.

Villages like Tickham often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Why get it checked now?

Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. In a small place like Tickham, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Why choose Independent Roof Survey in Tickham

  • We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

Tickham questions

Are there drone restrictions around Tickham?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Tickham is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Are you insured?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know as you book.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Tickham?

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What to check before booking

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What a good roof survey covers

Flying and imaging in Tickham

Tickham lies within about 4 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Historic houses such as Belmont House and Gardens, about 3.2 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Tickham goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take a building like Lynsted and Norton Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Tickham is about 3 miles west of Faversham, in Kent. Tickham is one of many places we visit across Kent, for homes and businesses alike. Tickham is one of the towns and villages in Kent where we work for drone roof surveys. For surveys nearby, see our Canterbury page.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

The top of a stack is typically out of view. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area.

Can I check my roof myself?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

What happens on the day

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Rural addresses near Tickham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Advice

What a drone roof survey does not cover

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
