Drone roof surveys for Tunstall homes and businesses

Drone roof survey in Tunstall: what you get

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’ve noticed tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and hidden gutters full of leaves, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Tunstall, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Tunstall questions

Is my home in Tunstall listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you cover smaller places like Tunstall?

Yes, Tunstall is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. The underside tells us things the drone cannot, so we check the loft too where we can.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

Near airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

In some places, only with permission. Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas that need NATS permission. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before you book, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Drones, thermal imaging and Tunstall roofs

Tunstall is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Tunstall. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

Take a building like Tunstall Church of England (Aided) Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Tunstall is about 1 mile south-west of Sittingbourne, in Kent. Bookings from Tunstall are handled just like any other: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Across Kent, we cover Tunstall and the places around it. Maidstone is in our area too.

Why act early in Tunstall

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right. Older cottages and farmhouses around Tunstall can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes an hour or two at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Tunstall can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

How to book

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Related advice

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What we are asked to look at in Tunstall

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Lifted or split lead flashings

For hotels and guest houses around Tunstall, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest.

What to check before booking

  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Let us know the exact address when you book
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
