What we can’t see

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

Drone roof survey in Heart's Delight: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Heart's Delight and across London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. We are often asked to look into lead work pulling away at abutments and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

Somewhere as small as Heart's Delight, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Questions from Heart's Delight

Is drone flying allowed in Heart's Delight?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Heart's Delight within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What happens next?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

What will the report tell me?

A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, with the most urgent first where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

Checking the roof from ground level

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Heart's Delight

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • How big the roof is
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Booking your survey

There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • What made you get in touch
  • Anything about access we should know
  • When you need the report by

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Leave it or get it looked at?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Heart's Delight

Heart's Delight lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Heart's Delight, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

If you look after a building such as Minterne Community Junior School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Hotels and guest houses near Heart's Delight cannot easily close rooms for a leak. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

What we do, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Heart's Delight can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Keep pets in another room
