Way Drone Roof Survey
Independent drone roof surveys in Way. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
Tips that help
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Let us know what you want to see
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
About our drone roof survey in Way
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. We survey chimney stacks, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and people most often book us about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.
Some older homes in villages like Way are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

What happens on the day
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. The survey usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Way, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Advice
Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It’s almost impossible to see from ground level, but a drone shows it clearly.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Way
Way is within about 3 miles of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Historic houses like Quex Park, about 2 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Way goes. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Anyone responsible for a site like Minster Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Shop and office owners around Westwood Cross may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.
Way is about 3 miles west of Ramsgate, in Kent. We carry out drone roof surveys in Way for houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings. Our Kent coverage includes Way. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

Checking the roof from the ground
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Way?
Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Before booking anyone
- Will the report include photos?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
Questions from Way
Are there drone restrictions around Way?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Do you cover smaller places like Way?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Will you check the loft?
If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Building height and the viewpoints available
To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
