How a drone roof survey works in Wildridings

Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone isn’t the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about hidden gutters full of leaves and wind damage high on the roof.

Around Wildridings, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Wildridings: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Wildridings is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Wildridings?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Do you look in the loft space?

If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

How long is the visit?

Most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The report follows by email.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

Why it is worth a survey now in Wildridings

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In an older home around Wildridings, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Practical tips

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Wildridings

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.

Drones, thermal imaging and Wildridings roofs

In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. If you run a business near The Lexicon, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Anyone responsible for a site like Wildridings Primary School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.

What a survey costs

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The size of the roof

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the exact price before booking.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Homes around Wildridings often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
