Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Priestwood
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you’ve noticed lead work pulling away at abutments and loose ridge and hip tiles, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.
In smaller places like Priestwood, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Chimney stacks
The drone shows the outside of the stack, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. We’ll say if a specialist is needed.

Priestwood questions
Are there drone restrictions around Priestwood?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Is Priestwood within the area you cover?
Yes, Priestwood is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report follows by email.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.
The survey, step by step
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take an hour or two at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a survey in Priestwood, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Checking the roof from the ground
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Priestwood?
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
For businesses in and around places such as The Lexicon, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- What experience they bring
Before and after the survey
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Book early if you’re near an airport
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.
What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Flying and imaging in Priestwood
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Priestwood is part of Bracknell, one of the post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Low-pitched roofs can be hard to see from the street, which is where a drone or thermal camera helps.
For an older house near a landmark such as St Andrew, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Meadow Vale Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
