- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Flashings that have come away
Common roof problems in Temple Park
Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
Take a building like Meadow Vale Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Drone roof survey in Temple Park
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In smaller places like Temple Park, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.
After the visit, you get a report with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Temple Park: your questions answered
Will you come out to Temple Park?
Yes, Temple Park is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Temple Park?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.
How long will you be at the property?
Time on site depends on the roof; most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.
What happens next?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

What this survey can’t tell you
A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
Tips from our surveys
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Let us know what you want to see
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
How the survey works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Temple Park is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Check pets are kept safely away

Related advice
Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. On a bungalow or cottage around Temple Park, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Airspace, weather and Temple Park roofs
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Shop and office owners around The Lexicon may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager. For an older house near a landmark such as St Andrew, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
