Drone roof survey in Quelm Park

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are blocked valleys and parapet gutters and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.

In smaller places like Quelm Park, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from the ground. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from ground level.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

How the survey works

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Quelm Park, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

Advice

Common roof problems in Quelm Park

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Lexicon, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

What a good roof survey covers

Flying and imaging in Quelm Park

Quelm Park is part of Bracknell, one of the post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Low pitches and flat-roofed additions are hard to see from ground level, so aerial and thermal views add detail. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Andrew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Take a building like Sandy Lane Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Honest limits

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • A structural engineer’s report

Useful tips for Quelm Park property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Book early if you are near an airport

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.
