How electronic leak detection works in Brookhampton
ELD suits many waterproofing membranes on flat roofs over offices, units, blocks of flats and homes. It can be used to trace an existing leak or check a new membrane before handover. We quote for each roof based on its size and build-up. We can test on weekdays and at weekends when conditions allow. Tell us about your roof to find out more. If you’ve noticed leaks under green or ballasted roofs and leaks showing away from the breach, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Brookhampton are listed or in a conservation area, and that can affect how an extension roof or dormer is re-covered. Check with the council before planning any change of material. Knowing the roof’s condition is the starting point. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

How the survey changes by roof type
Single-ply membranes
Single-ply can be punctured by tools or fixings. ELD can locate them.
Liquid-applied waterproofing
What lies under a liquid coating decides if ELD will work.
Flat and commercial roofs around Brookhampton
Garsington Manor, about 2.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Brookhampton. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Flat roofs on extensions, dormers, garages and business units are found alongside them almost everywhere.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, flat-roofed rear additions and dormers added over the years are worth checking. Anyone responsible for a site like Stadhampton Primary School will know that large flat roofs, common on schools and other public buildings, need their outlets, upstands and coverings checked regularly.

Brookhampton questions
Do you cover smaller places like Brookhampton?
Yes, Brookhampton is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Brookhampton?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Brookhampton is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
What do I do with the report?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Is the repair part of the test?
No, our part is finding the breaches. Your roofer uses the report to target the repair.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Brookhampton
Testing a new membrane before it is covered is easier than tracing a leak later. Once layers are added, finding a breach is harder. Around Brookhampton, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Leaks at pipes, outlets or fixings
- Punctures from foot traffic or tools
- Leaks showing away from the breach
- Repairs that haven’t stopped the leak
For landlords with property near Radley station, a flat roof over a rented flat is easy to forget until the tenant reports a leak.

The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the flat roof membrane as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes more time on a big roof than a small one, and the build-up of the roof makes a difference too. For a village or hamlet like Brookhampton, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- First, we confirm which roof areas are included.
- We get the roof ready for testing.
- Testing runs across the agreed area.
- Each breach found is located and recorded.
- The report is sent for your roofer to act on.
Preparing for the visit
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
