Pevensey Bay Electronic Leak Detection
Electronic leak detection in Pevensey Bay from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.

- Damp inside with no sign on the roof
- Waterproofing to test before it’s covered
About our electronic leak detection in Pevensey Bay
Electronic leak detection works on many flat roof membranes over offices, units, blocks of flats and homes. It helps trace a leak you already have or check a new membrane before handover. Each roof is quoted on its size and build-up. Testing can be carried out on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the weather. Just ask about your roof. We’re often asked to look into new membranes needing a check before handover and water coming in under a flat roof, on commercial flat roofs, liquid-applied waterproofing and green roofs.
Around Pevensey Bay, many homes have a garden room, garage or outbuilding with a flat roof. They’re rarely looked at until something gets wet. If you want them looked at too, mention them as you book, along with the main flat roof. Felt, rubber and GRP coverings on garages and outbuildings age in just the same way as the main roof’s.
What you get is a clear record of the flat roof membrane on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

Pevensey Bay questions
Do you cover smaller places like Pevensey Bay?
Yes, Pevensey Bay is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Pevensey Bay?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
When does the report arrive?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.
Do you use low-voltage or high-voltage testing?
The roof decides the method. You will know which method we plan to use before we start.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
What we do, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes as long as needed for the membrane area and the build-up, which we set out in the quote. For a survey in Pevensey Bay, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- First, we confirm which roof areas are included.
- The surface is prepared for the chosen method.
- Testing runs across the agreed area.
- We mark the breach locations in our records.
- You receive the results to pass to your roofer.
Before we arrive
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
When you need someone else
It is useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- Parts of the roof covered by fixed equipment
- How wet the insulation is
- Roofs whose membrane or build-up isn’t suitable
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Commercial flat roofs
- Single-ply roofs
- Roof terraces and balconies
- Liquid-applied waterproofing
- Flat roof membranes
- Green roofs
What we look for on each type of roof
Green and ballasted roofs
Parts of the covering may have to come up. We discuss this before quoting.
Liquid-applied waterproofing
Small holes in liquid waterproofing may leak. ELD can help locate them on suitable roofs.
Can I check my roof myself?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What else we do in Pevensey Bay
What happens if roof problems are left?
Opening up a roof to hunt for a leak is disruptive. Electronic testing finds the hole first so your roofer knows where to work. Blocked gutters on homes around Pevensey Bay overflow and soak walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
All our prices include VAT. We quote electronic leak detection for each roof, as the method and time depend on the roof. You will know the price for your survey before you book.

Flat roofs in Pevensey Bay
Pevensey Bay is within about 1 mile of the coast, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt in the air is hard on metal flashings and fixings, and wind catches any loose edge on a flat roof. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Pevensey and Westham CofE Primary School, ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season. Take an older house close to St Wilfrid's Church Pevensey Bay: any flat roof added at the back or on a dormer is likely to be far younger, and less durable, than the main roof. Landlords with a home close to Pevensey Bay station may find that a flat roof over a rented flat is easy to forget until the tenant reports a leak.

Practical tips
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Record dates and spots where water appears
- Keep outlets clear of debris
- Share any drawings of the roof
- Act on new leaks promptly
After your roofer repairs the breaches, a retest can confirm them, where the roof still suits the method.
Do not leave a flat roof leak running. Water under a membrane can spread.
