New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Murcott
Householders book snagging after a re-roof or roof replacement, and buyers of new-build homes sometimes want the roof checked. We inspect each roof as far as safe access allows including from the loft and the roof where it is safe. You then get a photo-illustrated written report to share with your roofer. We survey new-build homes, ridges and verges and new flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are poorly finished verges and gaps at new flashings.
Being in a small place like Murcott makes no difference to the inspection itself: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed ahead of time. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages with roofs you’d like looked at when booking, so the visit can be planned around them. Buyers and owners of new roofs get the same approach as anywhere. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What we do, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Murcott often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
- The new coverings and roof edges are inspected as far as can safely be seen.
- Valleys, flashings, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are checked.
- We check the loft where safe and look for debris or damage.
- Snags are listed in a photo-illustrated written report.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

What new roof snagging looks like in Murcott
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. The covering on a house you are buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest. About 2.7 miles east lies Boarstall Tower, a reminder of how long the area around Murcott has been built on. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.
Landlords with a home close to Islip station may find that it is worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it.

Murcott: your questions answered
Is my home in Murcott listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is Murcott within the area you cover?
Yes, Murcott is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Do I need to be at home?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when you book.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Do you get involved if the roofer disagrees with the report?
No. Our job is to report on the roof as we find it. A disagreement about the work is between you and them and our report gives you an independent record.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions aren’t right, we’ll talk to you about another date.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
DIY checks: what’s safe
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Murcott. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the survey around it.
Tips that help
Getting the most from new roof snagging starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Keep the contract and invoices together
- Let your roofer know an inspection is planned
- Check before your warranty period ends
- Look for debris left in gutters from the ground
You receive a photo-illustrated written report of each snag and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can send it straight to your roofer.
Note the end date of any defects or warranty period. Book a check well before it so snags can be raised.
