About our new roof snagging in Westwick Row

Our report records what we see, with photographs and clear descriptions. If there’s a disagreement about the work, it’s between you and your roofer or builder. What we provide is an independent record of the roof’s condition. We don’t give repair cost estimates or decide who is at fault, but it describes what we saw in plain terms. We are often asked to look into gaps at new flashings and broken coverings left on a new roof, on loft conversions and dormers, flashings and valleys and new-build homes.

Some older homes in villages like Westwick Row are listed or sit in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. For a buyer or someone with a newly finished roof, it is worth knowing which applies. There are about 500,000 listed buildings and around 10,000 conservation areas in England.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

New roof snagging around Westwick Row

With Batchwood Hall about 3.1 miles north-east, Westwick Row sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Hemel Hempstead, which Westwick Row is part of, is one of England’s post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Whether you’re buying or replacing a roof, low pitches and flat-roofed additions deserve a careful look.

If you live in an older home near Church of Holy Trinity, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light.

Westwick Row is about 2 miles east of Hemel Hempstead, in Hertfordshire. Whether the building in Westwick Row is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. We cover towns and villages across Hertfordshire, large and small. We also survey roofs in London.

We work across HP2 and HP3 for new roof snagging and the streets around it. You will find streets such as Pancake Lane, Delmar Avenue and Farm End, and we cover them all. Leave it or get it looked at?

Phone photos from the garden cannot show much. Our inspection looks as closely as can be done safely using a drone where it applies. Older cottages and farmhouses around Westwick Row can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Why us?

Signs you need new roof snagging in Westwick Row

Work at height can mark walls, crack lower roofs or loosen gutters. We look for knock-on damage, not just the new roof.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Missing or blocked roof ventilation
  • Broken coverings left on a new roof
  • Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
  • Gutters or fascias damaged during the job

For landlords with property near Apsley station, it is worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it.

FAQs for Westwick Row

My home in Westwick Row has a flat-roofed garage or porch. Is it worth having that looked at?

Frequently, yes, so mention it when booking. Flat-roofed garages and porches are common in new towns like Hemel Hempstead, and older felt coverings may be near the end of their life.

Will you come out to Westwick Row?

Yes, Westwick Row is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Are you insured?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Is snagging available for a new-build house roof?

Yes, new-build roofs are checked in the same way as replacement roofs. The report lists snags with photographs to raise with the builder.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where it is applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.

What does a new roof inspection cost?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The size of the roof and how easy it is to see affect the price. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How the survey works

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the new roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. Around Westwick Row, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
  2. The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can safely be seen.
  3. Flashings, valleys, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are looked at.
  4. We look in the roof space, where there is safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
  5. You get a photo report listing the snags we found.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Jot down any questions you want answered

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder
  • Pricing the remedial work
  • A promise that the roof will not leak

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

How we price new roof snagging

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • The size of the roof
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Getting in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
