Roof survey in CT19: how it works
Across London and South East England, roofs differ widely. If your home is a Victorian terrace, it may have Welsh slate, a butterfly roof and parapet gutters, and many post-war homes have concrete interlocking tiles instead. We adapt the survey to the roof in front of us. Older tiled homes may have clay plain tiles, and many homes have a flat-roofed extension too. Each part is checked in the way that suits it. We survey lead flashings, the roof space and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are valley linings that have cracked or split and condensation or damp timbers in the loft.
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

What’s near Cheriton
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Pent Valley Technology College, Church of All Souls and White Lion pub and the streets around them. Nearby too are All Soul's Church of England Primary School (less than half a mile north-west), The Folkestone Academy (1.1 miles east) and Lower Leas Coastal Park (1.7 miles south-east). The closest station to Cheriton is Folkestone West station, about 0.6 miles south-east of the centre. A little further out are Sandgate Castle (1 mile south) and Elham Valley Countryside Centre And Railway Museum (1.3 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include Sugar Loaf Hill.
Roof surveys across CT19: local notes
Across CT19, plenty of older houses still have chimney stacks, used or not, and their flashings and pointing need checking like any other part of the roof. Valleys, gutters and fixings follow close behind.
Our surveys reach from London out to Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, the Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, CT19 included. We survey on any day of the week. Some of CT19 sits close to the sea, so wind can decide whether a drone flies or a roof can be reached safely. If conditions are not right, the visit moves to a calmer day.
Cheriton: Acrise Place, about 3.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Cheriton. If you own one of the older houses, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up. Take a building like All Soul's Church of England Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

What affects the price in CT19
Our packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
What to let us know when you get in touch
Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:
- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
When you are ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Leave it or get it looked at?
It’s easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than waiting for something to fail.
Questions to ask before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
How the survey changes by roof type
Clay plain and peg tiles
Where tiles hang on walls or dormers, we look at them too. Loose or missing tiles there let rain into the wall.
Chimney stacks
Our chimney check is a visual inspection of the stack, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. If a specialist is needed, we will say so.
Common roof problems in CT19
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Lead can crack, lift or slip with age, and mortar fillets crack. Missing lead isn’t unusual either, as thieves target it.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
Common questions in CT19
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We also inspect from the ground, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. The Premium Survey adds a drone where it applies.
What’s the best way to book?
Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Will you check the loft?
Typically, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
