About our pre-purchase roof survey in Ifold
We survey roofs for buyers in Ifold and across London and South East England. From terraced and semi-detached homes to detached houses and flats, we follow the same careful process. The report says what’s in good order, what is not and what to deal with first. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, with more than 20 years’ experience behind us. To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We survey the roof space, gutters and downpipes and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about damp timbers or stains in the loft and gaps where slates or tiles have come loose.
Being in a small place like Ifold makes no difference to the inspection itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages with roofs you’d like looked at as you book. Buyers and owners of new roofs get the same approach as anywhere. Visits can be booked seven days a week.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

FAQs for Ifold
How do I find out if my home in Ifold is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Ifold?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Ifold is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the property.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
How long does the survey visit take?
It typically takes an hour or two at a typical house, with time for the loft where it can be reached. Report times depend on the package, from the same day for Premium to within 48 hours for Basic.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Will the roof report help me negotiate with the seller?
Yes. You might ask for work to be done, ask questions or ask for a change to the price. The outcome is between you and the seller, so we cannot promise any saving.
Is your roof survey a RICS survey?
No. It’s a dedicated roof survey, and you get a written report with photos. It does not cover the rest of the property, which a RICS survey does.
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
A stack stands exposed above the roof line. We check the pots, the flaunching, the pointing and the flashings, as far as we can see them safely.
Lead flashings and valleys
Flashings close the gaps at chimneys, walls and abutments. We look for lead that has lifted, split or been patched over.
What a pre-purchase roof survey looks like in Ifold
In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings. Whether you are buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
Around Ifold, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in. The streets around a church like St John the Baptist are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them.
Ifold is about 9 miles west of Horsham, in West Sussex. We survey roofs in Ifold across London and South East England. We cover towns and villages across West Sussex. Guildford is in our area too.
Surveys in RH14 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need a pre-purchase roof survey at a property on Birchwood Close, The Drive and Wildacre Close or anywhere close by, we can help. Close by, we survey roofs in Loxwood (1 mile north-east), Plaistow (1 mile west), Alfold Bars (2 miles north-east), Mackerel's Common (2 miles south) and Durfold Wood (2 miles north-west). Larger places within reach include Crawley (15 miles east), Horsham (9 miles east), Broadfield (14 miles east), Storrington (11 miles south), Billingshurst (5 miles south-east) and Bewbush (14 miles east).

Why it is worth a survey now in Ifold
Leaving it means judging the roof from the street. That rarely shows the back slope, the valleys or the top of the chimney. A survey fills that gap before you commit, with photos of anything that needs attention. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Ifold, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Read what a roof survey costs and what we found on two real jobs.
What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Building height and the viewpoints available
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
What we need to know
These details help when you get in touch:
- When you need the report by
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The kind of building and roof involved
Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll explain the options and the price.
What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Older rural homes like those around Ifold can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- You choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey to suit the home you’re buying.
- We agree a visit, including weekends if that helps.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You receive the report, with findings prioritised by urgency, so you can raise them with the seller.
Before the survey
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Related advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What this survey can’t tell you
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Walls, floors, services and rooms below the roof
- Confirmation of asbestos in cement sheets or soffits
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
